How many Profhilo treatments do you need? Most people having Profhilo for the first time are advised to have two treatments, usually around four weeks apart. A practitioner may sometimes recommend a third session after assessing your skin, treatment area and expected outcome.

One session may provide a subtle improvement in hydration or skin freshness, but it is not usually considered a complete introductory course. A single treatment is more commonly used for maintenance after an initial course.

The right number of sessions depends on your skin quality, the area being treated, previous treatments and what Profhilo can realistically achieve for you.

How Many Profhilo Treatments Are Needed?

What is Profhilo?

Profhilo is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment used to support skin hydration, elasticity and overall skin quality.

It is not designed to add facial volume in the same way as a dermal filler. It also does not relax facial muscles like a botulinum toxin treatment.

Because improvements usually develop gradually, Profhilo is commonly planned as a course rather than as a single treatment.

Read more about the general Profhilo treatment.

How many Profhilo treatments are usually needed?

A first Profhilo course commonly includes two sessions, with approximately four weeks between them.

The second session forms part of the planned introductory course. It allows the treatment result to develop over a longer period and gives the practitioner a more appropriate point at which to assess your response.

A third session is not routinely needed by everyone. It may be discussed after reassessment where:

  • Skin-quality concerns are more pronounced

  • The skin is particularly dry or crepey

  • There is visible sun damage

  • A larger body area is being treated

  • The response after two sessions is more limited than expected

The practitioner should explain why each session is being recommended rather than applying the same treatment plan to every patient.

One, two or three Profhilo treatments

One treatment

One treatment may be suitable as a maintenance session after a previous course. It may also provide a subtle improvement, but it is usually too early to judge the full outcome of an initial Profhilo plan.

Two treatments

Two treatments around four weeks apart are commonly recommended as the introductory course. This is the standard starting point discussed by many practitioners.

Three treatments

A third session may sometimes be recommended after reviewing your skin and the results of the first two treatments. More treatments are not automatically better, and an additional session should have a clear clinical reason.

Profhilo treatment schedule

  1. 1 Consultation and skin assessment
  2. 2 First Profhilo treatment
  3. 3 Second treatment after approximately four weeks
  4. 4 Review of the developing result
  5. 5 Optional third treatment where appropriate
  6. 6 Maintenance treatment when needed

What happens during a Profhilo course?

Consultation and assessment

The practitioner should assess your skin quality, medical history, treatment area and expectations. They should also explain the proposed number of sessions, possible side effects and total expected cost.

First treatment

Profhilo is injected into selected points beneath the skin. Temporary bumps, redness, tenderness, swelling or bruising may appear around the injection sites.

Second treatment

The second treatment is often booked approximately four weeks after the first. It is usually considered part of the initial course rather than an optional extra.

Result review

Profhilo does not produce an immediate volumising result. The outcome should be reviewed after the skin has had time to settle and the course has been completed.

Optional third treatment

A third session may be discussed when the practitioner believes it could provide a meaningful additional benefit. It should not be recommended simply as a standard upsell.

Maintenance

Once the initial course has been completed, an occasional maintenance treatment may be discussed to help preserve the result.

How long does a first Profhilo course take?

A two-session Profhilo course usually takes approximately four weeks from the first treatment to the second.

The result continues to develop after the second appointment, so the complete process is longer than the appointment schedule alone. Where a third treatment is recommended, the course and assessment period will take longer.

It is sensible to arrange the second appointment early so that it can be booked within the interval recommended by your practitioner.

What affects the number of treatments?

The recommended number of sessions can be influenced by several factors.

Skin quality

Dryness, reduced elasticity, fine lines and crepey skin may affect the treatment plan.

Degree of skin laxity

Profhilo may support mild skin-quality concerns, but it is not a surgical lift and does not replace lost facial volume.

Treatment area

The face, neck, décolletage, hands and body areas may require different techniques, product quantities or treatment plans.

Expected outcome

Someone looking for a subtle improvement in hydration may have different expectations from someone concerned about more noticeable skin laxity.

Previous treatments

Previous Profhilo sessions, dermal fillers, skin boosters, laser treatments or other skin procedures may affect when treatment can be performed.

General skin condition and lifestyle

Sun exposure, smoking and skincare habits may influence skin quality and the likely need for future maintenance.

Age alone should not determine the number of treatments. An individual skin assessment is more useful.

Is one Profhilo treatment enough?

One Profhilo treatment is not usually considered a complete introductory course.

Some people notice fresher-looking or better-hydrated skin after one session, but the change can be subtle. The second session is commonly planned before the outcome of the full course is assessed.

A single treatment may be more appropriate for maintenance if you have previously completed a Profhilo course.

Seeing little change after the first appointment does not necessarily mean that the treatment has failed. Profhilo develops gradually, and the result may be easier to assess after the planned course.

Read more about when Profhilo results become visible.

When might a third Profhilo treatment be considered?

A third session may be discussed where there are more noticeable skin-quality concerns or where a larger area is being treated.

Before agreeing to another session, ask the practitioner:

  • What specific concern the third treatment is intended to address

  • Whether enough time has passed to assess the first two treatments

  • What additional improvement is realistically expected

  • Whether another treatment may be more suitable

An extra session is not guaranteed to produce a stronger result. It should form part of an individual treatment plan.

How often can you repeat Profhilo?

After the initial course, maintenance may be discussed after several months. Some practitioners recommend reassessment at around six to nine months, while others advise one or two maintenance appointments per year.

This is not a fixed schedule. The timing depends on:

  • How your skin responds

  • The area treated

  • Your skin condition

  • How long you feel the improvement lasts

  • Your medical suitability at the time of treatment

You should not have Profhilo more frequently simply because you want a faster or stronger result. The practitioner should review whether another session is appropriate.

Read more about how long Profhilo lasts.

Does the treatment area affect the number of sessions?

Face

A first facial course commonly includes two treatments. The plan should be based on skin quality and the concerns being treated.

Neck

The neck often has thinner skin and may show crepey texture, horizontal lines or laxity. Profhilo may support skin quality, but it will not remove excess skin or provide a surgical lift.

Read more about Profhilo for the neck.

Décolletage

Sun damage, fine lines and skin texture can influence the treatment plan for the décolletage.

Under the eyes

The under-eye area requires particular care. Hollows, pigmentation, fluid retention and eye bags do not all respond to the same treatment. Standard Profhilo may not be appropriate for every under-eye concern.

Body

Profhilo Body may use a different amount of product and injection pattern from facial treatment. The number of sessions will depend on the size and condition of the area.

Read more about Profhilo Body.

Profhilo Structura

Profhilo Structura uses a different treatment approach from standard Profhilo. Its injection technique and treatment plan should not be assumed to be the same.

Read more about Profhilo Structura.

When can you expect to see results?

Profhilo results usually develop gradually rather than immediately.

Some people first notice improved hydration or a fresher appearance. Changes in skin texture or elasticity can take longer and are often easier to assess after the complete introductory course.

Profhilo does not create immediate facial volume like a dermal filler and does not relax muscles like botulinum toxin.

Results vary between individuals. Factors such as skin quality, age-related changes, treatment area and lifestyle may affect the outcome.

How should you assess Profhilo before-and-after photos?

Check whether the clinic explains:

  • How many treatments were performed

  • The time between the appointments

  • When the after photograph was taken

  • Which area was treated

  • Whether other treatments were also performed

  • Whether the lighting and facial expression are comparable

A photograph taken shortly after one session cannot be directly compared with a result photographed several weeks after a full course.

Before-and-after images show individual examples and cannot predict your result.

How does the number of treatments affect the cost?

The total cost depends on more than the advertised price of one appointment.

Relevant cost factors include:

  • The number of sessions in the initial course

  • The treatment area

  • The amount of product used

  • Whether the consultation is charged separately

  • Whether a review appointment is included

  • Whether future maintenance is recommended

  • The experience and qualifications of the practitioner

Ask for the expected cost of the complete treatment plan rather than comparing clinics only by the price of one session.

UK prices should not be assumed from Dutch or Belgian clinics. Compare current prices directly through UK clinic profiles.

What if clinics recommend different numbers of treatments?

Two clinics may recommend different plans after assessing the same general concern. This does not automatically mean that one recommendation is incorrect.

Ask each practitioner to explain:

  • Why the proposed number of sessions is appropriate

  • What they found during the skin assessment

  • When the result will be reviewed

  • What improvement is considered realistic

  • Why a third treatment may or may not be needed

  • What the complete course is expected to cost

Be cautious if a clinic recommends several treatments without first assessing your skin or explaining the reason.

The lowest number of sessions is not always the most suitable option, but a larger number is not automatically better.

What are the disadvantages of Profhilo?

Profhilo usually produces a subtle and gradual result. This may be a disadvantage if you want an immediate or substantial change.

Other limitations include:

  • An introductory course commonly involves more than one appointment

  • Results vary between individuals

  • Maintenance may be needed

  • It does not restore significant facial volume

  • It does not relax expression lines

  • It does not remove excess skin

  • Temporary injection-site reactions can occur

Alternative treatments may be more appropriate if your main concern is facial volume loss, deeper folds, muscle-related wrinkles or significant skin laxity.

Read more about Profhilo or dermal fillers and Profhilo or skin boosters.

Side effects and aftercare during a Profhilo course

Temporary reactions can occur after each session, including:

  • Small raised bumps at injection points

  • Redness

  • Swelling

  • Tenderness

  • Bruising

  • Itching or sensitivity

These effects often settle without treatment, although recovery time varies.

Less common complications can include infection or an allergic reaction. Seek advice from the treating clinic if symptoms become increasingly painful, hot, red or swollen, or if you feel unwell.

Treatment may need to be postponed where there is an active skin infection. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergies, medical conditions and medication use should be discussed during the consultation.

Follow the aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner. You may be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, excessive heat and strong sun exposure for a short period. Ask when you may apply make-up or active skincare products again.

Read more about Profhilo side effects and Profhilo aftercare.

Questions to ask during your consultation

Before booking a course, ask:

  • How many treatments do you recommend for my skin?

  • Why is that number suitable?

  • Is one session likely to be enough?

  • How long should there be between sessions?

  • When should the result be assessed?

  • Under what circumstances would you recommend a third treatment?

  • When might maintenance be needed?

  • What is the expected total cost?

  • Who will perform the treatment?

  • What side effects and aftercare should I expect?

  • What happens if I am unhappy with the result?

The answers should be specific to your skin and treatment area rather than based on a fixed package offered to every patient.

How to compare Profhilo clinics

When comparing clinics, consider the complete treatment plan rather than focusing only on the lowest price.

Look for clear information about:

  • The practitioner performing the injections

  • The practitioner’s professional qualifications and prescribing arrangements where relevant

  • Experience with Profhilo

  • The proposed number of treatments

  • The interval between sessions

  • Potential side effects

  • Aftercare and follow-up support

  • The total expected cost

  • What happens if the treatment is unsuitable

A responsible clinic should be willing to explain why Profhilo is appropriate and discuss alternatives when it is unlikely to address your main concern.

What should you look for in Profhilo reviews?

A useful review should provide more information than simply saying that the result was good or disappointing.

Look for details such as:

  • The number of sessions completed

  • Whether it was an initial course or maintenance treatment

  • The area treated

  • When the result was assessed

  • Any temporary bumps, swelling or bruising

  • Whether the treatment plan and costs were clearly explained

  • How the clinic responded to questions or concerns

Remember that another person’s experience cannot predict your own result.
