How Many Profhilo Treatments Are Needed?

Most people starting Profhilo are treated with an initial course of two sessions, usually around four weeks apart. One session is generally not treated as the complete introductory course, while a third session may sometimes be discussed after an individual assessment rather than being routinely required.

The exact plan can vary. Your practitioner should consider the treatment area, your previous treatment history, how your skin responds and what you are hoping to achieve before deciding whether two sessions are sufficient.

This page focuses specifically on how many Profhilo treatments may be planned and when they are given. For a broader explanation of the treatment itself, see our guide to Profhilo treatment.

How Many Profhilo Treatments Do You Need?

How many Profhilo treatments are usually needed?

For an initial Profhilo course, two treatments approximately four weeks apart are commonly used. The second appointment forms part of the planned course rather than automatically being an optional top-up.

That does not mean everybody should receive exactly the same schedule. A practitioner should assess your individual circumstances rather than deciding the number of sessions from age alone or selling a fixed package without explaining why it applies to you.

If you have previously had Profhilo, the question may be different. Instead of starting another full course automatically, the practitioner can assess whether you are being considered for maintenance and whether another session is appropriate at that point.

Typical Profhilo treatment schedule

  1. 1 Consultation and individual assessment
  2. 2 First Profhilo treatment
  3. 3 Second treatment around four weeks later
  4. 4 Allow time for the treatment response to develop
  5. 5 Reassess the outcome and treatment plan
  6. 6 Discuss future maintenance if appropriate

Is one Profhilo treatment enough?

One Profhilo session is usually not considered the complete initial course. Although you may notice changes after the first appointment, it is too early to assume from one session alone that the planned course has been completed.

This matters when comparing clinic packages. Ask whether a quoted single session is intended as the first treatment in an initial course, a maintenance appointment after previous treatment, or another individually planned approach.

If you have already completed a Profhilo course in the past, the practitioner should assess what has changed before recommending another session.

How long should there be between Profhilo treatments?

The first and second treatments in an initial course are commonly planned around four weeks apart.

The word “around” matters. Your treatment should follow the schedule agreed with the practitioner managing your care rather than a rigid date copied from another person's treatment plan.

If you cannot attend the second appointment at the originally planned time, contact the treating clinic. Do not independently decide that the course has failed or restart treatment simply because the second appointment cannot fall on an exact four-week date.

When might a third Profhilo treatment be considered?

A third Profhilo treatment is not routinely required for everyone. It may sometimes be discussed after your practitioner has considered the response to the earlier sessions and whether another treatment is justified.

The important question is not simply whether a clinic offers a three-session package. Ask why the third session is being recommended in your case.

Useful points to clarify include:

  • what the practitioner is assessing;

  • what they expect another session to contribute;

  • whether the recommendation was made before or after reassessment;

  • when the outcome should be reviewed;

  • whether doing nothing further is also a reasonable option.

More treatment does not automatically mean a better result.

Does the treatment area affect how many Profhilo sessions you need?

It can affect treatment planning, but you should not assume that every Profhilo area follows exactly the same protocol. The product used, size of the area, technique and individual assessment may all influence the plan.

For example, a treatment plan for the body should not simply be copied from a facial protocol. If you are researching a larger treatment area, see the dedicated guide to Profhilo Body.

When should you judge whether Profhilo has worked?

Do not judge the entire course immediately after the first appointment. Profhilo treatment is planned over more than one session, and the treatment response develops over time.

This is particularly important before deciding that you need an extra session. Ask the practitioner when they expect a meaningful reassessment to take place and what they will use to decide whether further treatment should be considered.

For a more detailed explanation of treatment-response timing, see when Profhilo results become visible.

How often is Profhilo repeated after the initial course?

There is no single maintenance interval that should be applied automatically to everyone. After the initial course, another treatment may be discussed after several months, but the timing should be reassessed according to your previous treatment, response and current treatment plan.

This is more useful than booking recurring Profhilo indefinitely without reassessment. Ask what has changed since your previous course and why treatment is being recommended at that particular time.

For more detail about treatment longevity and maintenance timing, see how long Profhilo lasts.

What happens if you miss your second Profhilo appointment?

If the second treatment cannot take place on the date originally planned, contact the clinic that is managing your treatment. They can advise how the delay affects your individual course and when the next appointment should be arranged.

Do not assume that a short delay means the first treatment has been wasted. Equally, do not restart or add treatments without discussing the revised schedule with the treating practitioner.

What does the number of treatments mean for the total cost?

A treatment plan involving two appointments will have a different total cost from a single session, and another session or later maintenance can change the overall amount further.

When comparing clinics, ask for the cost of the expected treatment plan, not only the headline cost of one appointment. Clarify:

  • how many sessions the quoted plan includes;

  • whether consultation is charged separately;

  • whether the same treatment area is included each time;

  • whether any review appointment is included;

  • whether maintenance is priced separately.

For UK pricing information, use the dedicated Profhilo cost comparison.

What if two clinics recommend a different number of Profhilo treatments?

Different recommendations do not automatically mean that one clinic is wrong. The important point is whether each practitioner can explain the reasoning behind the proposed schedule.

If one clinic recommends two sessions and another recommends three, ask both:

  • what they found during the assessment;

  • whether the extra treatment is part of their standard package or based on your individual assessment;

  • when they plan to reassess the outcome;

  • what would make them decide not to proceed with another session;

  • what the full treatment plan will cost.

A higher number of sessions is not automatically better. A lower number is not automatically more appropriate either.

Questions to ask before agreeing to a Profhilo course

Why are you recommending this number of sessions?

Is this an initial course or maintenance?

How long will there be between sessions?

When will you reassess the result?

What would make you recommend a third session?

What will the complete planned course cost?

What about side effects when you have more than one Profhilo treatment?

Injection-site reactions can potentially occur after each treatment rather than only after your first appointment. This means the timing of future sessions should include consideration of how you recovered from earlier treatment.

The full risk profile, warning signs and recovery advice belong on the dedicated safety page. See Profhilo side effects if you want to review that information before another session.

What should you do between Profhilo sessions?

Follow the instructions provided by the practitioner who treated you and contact the clinic if you are unsure whether a reaction or change affects the timing of your next appointment.

Do not use this page as a substitute for personalised aftercare instructions. The dedicated Profhilo aftercare guide covers the post-treatment topic in more detail.

How to compare Profhilo treatment plans

When comparing clinics, look beyond whether they sell one, two or three sessions. A useful treatment plan should explain why that number is being proposed and when the decision will be reviewed.

Check whether you have been told:

  • whether you are starting an initial course or having maintenance;

  • how many treatments are currently planned;

  • the interval between appointments;

  • when the response will be reassessed;

  • what might justify another session;

  • what the complete planned course will cost;

  • who will assess you if the treatment plan changes.
