How long does Profhilo last? There is no exact date when Profhilo suddenly stops working. Visible skin-quality changes are often discussed around the six-month mark after an initial treatment course, but duration varies between individuals and may be shorter or longer.

Profhilo is temporary. The changes usually become less noticeable gradually rather than disappearing overnight, which means maintenance should be based on how your skin responds rather than an automatic calendar date.

How long the result remains noticeable can depend on your starting skin condition, the area treated, your individual response and the treatment plan used.

If you are still researching the treatment itself, see our complete guide to Profhilo treatment.

How long do Profhilo results usually remain noticeable?

Profhilo results should be thought of as having a gradual duration rather than a fixed expiry date. Around six months is commonly used as a practical reference point after an initial treatment course, but it should not be treated as a guarantee.

Some people may notice changes for longer. Others may feel that hydration, texture or firmness begins returning towards baseline sooner.

What matters is also what you are measuring. Profhilo is primarily used to support skin quality rather than create a defined change in facial volume. A subtle improvement in hydration or texture can therefore be harder to assign an exact end date to than a structural change produced by some other injectable treatments.

If a clinic gives you a specific longevity estimate, ask whether that estimate refers to:

  • one treatment or an initial treatment course

  • the first noticeable change or the full visible effect

  • the face or another treatment area

  • a typical clinic experience or a guaranteed duration

A duration estimate should help set expectations, not promise how your individual skin will respond.

How Profhilo results may change over time

  1. 1 Treatment is completed according to the agreed plan
  2. 2 Skin-quality changes develop gradually
  3. 3 The result becomes easier to assess over the following weeks
  4. 4 Changes may remain noticeable for several months
  5. 5 Hydration, texture or firmness gradually become less noticeable
  6. 6 Maintenance can be discussed if the person wants to continue treatment

Does Profhilo suddenly wear off?

No. Profhilo does not normally have a single day on which the visible result disappears.

Instead, the difference between your treated skin and its previous appearance may gradually become less obvious.

You might notice that:

  • the skin no longer feels as hydrated as it did after treatment

  • improvements in skin texture become less apparent

  • fine surface lines appear closer to their previous appearance

  • any perceived improvement in firmness becomes subtler

These changes do not mean that your skin has suddenly deteriorated. They indicate that the temporary cosmetic effect is becoming less noticeable while normal skin ageing continues.

You also do not have to repeat treatment simply because the effect has faded. Choosing not to continue is a valid option.

What affects how long Profhilo lasts?

There is no reliable formula that can predict Profhilo duration for one individual.

The following factors may be relevant when assessing how long a visible result remains noticeable:

Starting skin condition

Two people receiving the same treatment may begin with very different levels of hydration, skin laxity, texture and previous sun exposure. That can affect both how noticeable the initial change is and how easy it is to see when the effect begins to fade.

Treatment area

Skin thickness, movement and anatomy differ between the face, neck, décolletage and other areas. Longevity should therefore not automatically be assumed to be identical in every treatment area.

Individual biological response

People respond differently to injectable treatments. An estimated duration from another patient, clinic photograph or online review cannot predict your individual result.

Treatment plan

How the initial treatment course is planned may affect how the eventual result is assessed. A practitioner should explain what treatment schedule is being proposed and why.

For more detail about treatment-course planning, see how many Profhilo treatments may be needed.

When do Profhilo results appear?

How many treatments are needed?

Does one Profhilo treatment last as long as a full treatment course?

Not necessarily. Duration estimates for Profhilo should be interpreted in the context of the treatment plan used.

A single session should not automatically be treated as equivalent to a planned initial course. This is one reason why claims such as "Profhilo lasts six months" can be misleading when they do not explain what treatment schedule the estimate is based on.

When comparing clinics, ask:

  • how many initial sessions are being proposed

  • how far apart those sessions are planned

  • when the clinic expects to assess the result

  • what would lead them to suggest maintenance later

The aim is to understand the treatment plan rather than assume every clinic is describing exactly the same protocol.

How can you tell when Profhilo is wearing off?

There is no clinical home test that tells you Profhilo has "expired". In practice, people usually recognise fading by comparing how their skin looks or feels with the period when the treatment effect was more noticeable.

For example, you may feel that:

  • hydration has gradually returned towards your previous baseline

  • skin texture looks less different from before treatment

  • subtle firmness is less apparent

  • fine lines that appeared softer are becoming more noticeable again

Try to judge change over weeks rather than from one photograph or one day. Lighting, hydration, make-up, facial expression and camera position can all change how skin appears.

If your result seems very different from what was discussed during consultation, contact the treating clinic rather than assuming more treatment is automatically required.

When should Profhilo maintenance be considered?

There is no maintenance interval that is automatically right for everyone.

Maintenance may be discussed when the previous result has clearly become less noticeable and you still want to maintain the effect. A practitioner can reassess your skin, your previous response and whether repeating the same treatment remains appropriate.

A useful maintenance discussion should consider:

  • what changed after your previous treatment

  • how long that change remained noticeable to you

  • whether your expectations were met

  • whether the same treatment goal still applies

  • whether another treatment is being suggested and why

Avoid choosing maintenance solely because a fixed number of months has passed.

What happens if you stop having Profhilo?

Does Profhilo last longer than dermal fillers?

A direct duration comparison can be misleading because Profhilo and dermal fillers are used for different purposes.

Profhilo is generally used to support skin quality and hydration rather than create defined structural volume. Dermal fillers include multiple products that can be used for contour, projection or volume restoration, and their longevity varies by product and treatment area.

This means that a statement such as "fillers last longer" does not tell you which treatment is more appropriate for a particular goal.

For a treatment-specific comparison, see Profhilo vs dermal fillers.

What if Profhilo seems to wear off sooner than expected?

A result that feels shorter than expected does not automatically mean that the treatment failed.

First consider what was originally expected. Profhilo is intended to produce relatively subtle skin-quality changes, so expectations of significant lifting, contouring or volume may make the result seem disappointing even when the treatment itself was performed as planned.

It can also help to consider:

  • when you first noticed a change

  • when the result was assessed

  • whether the planned initial course was completed

  • which treatment area was assessed

  • what outcome the practitioner originally discussed with you

If you are unsure whether the issue is duration or the type of result achieved, our guide to why Profhilo may not work as expected explains the distinction in more detail.

Can before-and-after photos show how long Profhilo lasts?

Not reliably unless the photographs include clearly stated and comparable time points.

A photograph taken shortly after treatment may show whether a visible change occurred, but it does not prove that the same result remained at three, six or twelve months.

When reviewing photographs, check whether:

  • the time after treatment is stated

  • lighting appears comparable

  • facial position and expression are similar

  • the same treatment area is shown

  • the number of treatment sessions is explained

Use photographs as examples of possible visible outcomes rather than predictions of your own result.

What should you ask a clinic about Profhilo longevity?

A useful consultation should give you more than a single number of months.

Consider asking:

  • What duration do you usually discuss for the proposed treatment plan?

  • Is that estimate based on one session or a complete initial course?

  • When should the result first be assessed?

  • What changes would suggest that the effect is beginning to fade?

  • How do you decide whether maintenance is appropriate?

  • What happens if I choose not to have maintenance?

  • What result would indicate that another treatment goal should be discussed instead?

The answers should help you understand both the possible duration and the uncertainty around it.
