Profhilo for the face is an injectable hyaluronic acid treatment mainly used to support facial skin hydration, texture and elasticity. Standard Profhilo is not designed to create targeted volume in the cheeks, lips or jawline, and it does not reduce facial muscle activity.

It may be discussed when your main concern is dry or dehydrated-looking skin, fine surface lines, reduced elasticity or mild skin laxity. The visible change is generally intended to be gradual and subtle rather than a noticeable change to facial shape.

A practitioner should assess your skin, medical history and expectations before deciding whether the treatment may be appropriate for you.

For broader information about the product and treatment category, read the Profhilo treatment guide.

Profhilo Face

What does Profhilo do for your face?

Profhilo is primarily used to support the quality of the facial skin rather than change facial proportions. The treatment is distributed across selected points so that the focus remains on a wider area of skin rather than filling one individual wrinkle.

Profhilo may be discussed when the main treatment goal involves:

  • dry or dehydrated-looking skin;

  • fine surface lines;

  • less smooth skin texture;

  • reduced skin elasticity;

  • thin or crepey-looking skin;

  • mild or early skin laxity.

It does not automatically remove every wrinkle. A line caused mainly by facial movement, a deep fold related to volume loss or significant loose skin has a different underlying cause and requires a different assessment.

Does Profhilo add volume to the face?

Standard Profhilo is not intended to build precise facial volume. It should not be expected to enlarge the cheekbones, project the chin, define the jawline or increase lip volume in the way a volumising dermal filler may be used.

Does Profhilo relax facial muscles?

No. Profhilo does not work by reducing facial muscle activity. This distinction is particularly relevant when lines are most noticeable during frowning, smiling or raising the eyebrows.

What standard Profhilo can and cannot do

Skin hydration and texture

Facial volume

Expression lines

Significant skin laxity

Where is Profhilo used on the face?

A practitioner normally assesses overall facial skin quality rather than deciding treatment solely from one visible line.

One commonly used approach is the Bio Aesthetic Points, or BAP, technique. With this technique, five injection points are used on each side of the face.

The exact technique should still be selected for the individual rather than assumed to be identical for everyone.

Cheeks and mid-face

When standard Profhilo is used across the cheek or mid-face, the treatment goal remains skin quality. It is not intended to build cheekbone projection in the same way as a volumising cheek filler.

Lower face

Profhilo may be considered where fine lines, reduced elasticity or mild skin laxity affect the lower face. It should not be expected to produce a sharply defined filler-style jawline.

Around the eyes

The eye area requires a separate assessment because the skin is thinner and concerns such as fine lines, hollows, pigmentation and puffiness can have different causes.

Treatment around the eyes should therefore not automatically be treated as part of the standard facial BAP pattern.

If the eye area is your primary concern, read the dedicated Profhilo under-eyes guide.

Forehead

Forehead lines may be strongly influenced by facial muscle activity. Profhilo therefore does not automatically match the treatment goal simply because the lines appear on facial skin.

What can Profhilo not treat effectively on the face?

Profhilo is most relevant when skin quality is the central concern. It has clear limitations when a facial change is mainly structural or movement-related.

Standard Profhilo is not intended to:

  • replace significant localised facial volume;

  • completely remove deep facial folds;

  • precisely reshape the lips, cheeks, chin or jawline;

  • reduce the muscle movement behind expression lines;

  • remove significant loose or excess skin.

The presence of one of these concerns does not automatically mean that another injectable is appropriate. The underlying cause should be assessed first.

Profhilo Structura is also different from standard Profhilo. It is a separate treatment concept and should not be presented as an interchangeable version of the facial Profhilo treatment described on this page.

What happens during a Profhilo face treatment?

  1. 1 Consultation and facial skin assessment
  2. 2 Discussion of your treatment goal and expectations
  3. 3 Review of relevant medical history and medication
  4. 4 Cleansing and preparation of the facial skin
  5. 5 Selection of appropriate injection points
  6. 6 Profhilo injections into the planned facial areas
  7. 7 Immediate check of the treated skin
  8. 8 Individual aftercare and follow-up plan

How many Profhilo treatments are usually used for the face?

A commonly used initial Profhilo course consists of two treatment appointments, often around four weeks apart. The appropriate number of sessions can differ according to your skin, previous treatment and the practitioner's assessment.

One appointment should not automatically be presented as a complete treatment course, and additional sessions should not be assumed to produce a stronger result.

For a detailed explanation of treatment frequency and maintenance, read how many Profhilo treatments are needed.

What does your face look like immediately after Profhilo?

Immediately after treatment, small raised areas may be visible where Profhilo was injected. You may also notice redness, mild swelling, tenderness, pinpricks or bruising.

These are early injection-site reactions rather than the final cosmetic result.

How visible they are varies between individuals. Someone who bruises easily, for example, may notice more temporary discolouration than someone who does not.

When can you see Profhilo results on the face?

Profhilo does not normally create an immediate final result. Changes in hydration or the appearance of the skin develop gradually.

Texture, firmness and elasticity should therefore not be judged from how the face looks immediately after the injections.

The planned treatment course also affects when it is reasonable to assess the outcome. Read more about when Profhilo results become visible if timing is your main question.

What are the disadvantages of Profhilo for the face?

The main limitation of facial Profhilo is that the result may be more subtle than someone expecting filler-style volume or a lifting procedure anticipates.

Other disadvantages include:

  • results vary between individuals;

  • the treatment effect is temporary;

  • more than one appointment may form part of the initial course;

  • maintenance may be discussed later;

  • temporary bumps, redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising can occur;

  • it does not precisely replace facial volume;

  • it does not relax expression muscles;

  • it does not remove significant loose skin.

A result that looks subtle does not automatically mean that the treatment was performed incorrectly. Starting skin condition, the treatment plan and expectations all affect how the change is perceived.

What are the disadvantages of Profhilo?

Possible disadvantages include:

  • Results are usually subtle and temporary

  • More than one treatment may be recommended

  • Maintenance appointments may be needed

  • Small lumps, swelling or bruising can occur temporarily

  • It does not correct significant volume loss

  • Results vary between individuals

Profhilo is not a direct replacement for dermal fillers, botulinum toxin treatment or surgery when a different concern is being treated.

Profhilo side effects, aftercare and suitability

After facial Profhilo, temporary reactions may appear around the injection points. These can include small raised bumps, redness, mild swelling, tenderness and bruising. They should generally become less noticeable rather than progressively worse.

For a fuller explanation of possible reactions and complications, read Profhilo side effects.

What should you do after facial Profhilo?

Follow the individual aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner. These may cover touching or rubbing the face, applying make-up, strenuous exercise, heat exposure, sun exposure and other facial treatments.

Do not repeatedly press or massage the injection sites unless your practitioner specifically advises you to do so.

What should you discuss before treatment?

Your consultation should cover relevant medical history, medication, allergies, previous injectable treatments and any previous reactions.

Tell the practitioner if you have an active infection or inflammation affecting the intended treatment area. Pregnancy or breastfeeding should also be discussed before treatment.

When should you contact the clinic?

Contact the treating clinic if pain, swelling, redness, warmth or another symptom becomes unexpectedly worse rather than settling.

Increasing or severe pain, unusual skin discolouration, rapidly increasing swelling, spreading redness or warmth, fever or feeling clearly unwell require medical assessment.

How long does Profhilo last in the face?

The visible effect of facial Profhilo is temporary. There is no single duration that applies to everyone.

How long you notice a change can depend on factors such as your starting skin condition, individual response, treatment course and whether further treatment is later chosen.

Maintenance should therefore be discussed after your response to the initial course has been assessed rather than treated as an automatic requirement.

Profhilo or fillers for the face?

Profhilo and dermal fillers can both involve hyaluronic acid, but their facial treatment goals are different.

Standard Profhilo is mainly used when the concern centres on skin hydration, texture and elasticity. It is distributed to support a wider area of skin rather than create a precise new contour.

Dermal fillers are generally used when targeted volume, structural support or facial contour is the treatment goal.

Neither option is automatically better. The relevant treatment depends on whether the visible concern primarily relates to skin quality, facial volume, anatomy or several factors together.

Read the dedicated Profhilo vs fillers comparison if choosing between these treatment categories is your main question.

What affects the cost of Profhilo for the face?

The cost of facial Profhilo can differ between UK clinics and treatment plans. The most useful comparison is therefore not necessarily the advertised cost of one isolated appointment.

Before comparing prices, check:

  • how many appointments are being recommended;

  • whether the quote is for standard Profhilo;

  • what quantity or treatment is included;

  • whether the consultation is charged separately;

  • whether a review appointment is included;

  • what aftercare support is provided;

  • whether future maintenance has been included or quoted separately.

A cheaper individual appointment does not automatically make the complete treatment course less expensive.

For dedicated UK pricing information, use the Profhilo cost comparison page.

How do you compare clinics for Profhilo face treatment?

Compare the complete treatment process rather than selecting a clinic from price alone.

For facial Profhilo, useful comparison points include:

  • who performs your consultation;

  • who performs the injections;

  • whether the practitioner's professional background can be verified where relevant;

  • their experience with Profhilo and facial injectable treatment;

  • whether your facial skin is assessed before treatment;

  • whether they explain what standard Profhilo can and cannot achieve;

  • why the proposed number of appointments has been recommended;

  • what aftercare support is available;

  • how unexpected symptoms or complications are managed;

  • whether a review appointment is available when appropriate.

Professional registration can provide useful background information where relevant, but it does not by itself show how much experience someone has with Profhilo.

Compare Profhilo clinics

Injectablesbooking allows you to compare available clinic and treatment information in one place.

Use the information that matters to you to narrow your options. A consultation can then help determine whether Profhilo matches your facial skin concern and expectations.

Choosing not to proceed with treatment remains an option.
